FAQs about WhatNeXT and Maharashtra Engineering Admissions

1. How does WhatNeXT College Suggester Engine work?

WhatNeXT College Suggester Engine asks user to provide his/her MHT-CET score, gender, category, home university and compare the student's profile with the previous years' data for cutoffs to suggest a list of suitable engineering colleges in Maharashtra for the student.

2. I am 12th science student and have appeared for MHT-CET exam. I want to do my career in Engineering. How can I make best use of WhatNeXT for this?

You can just visit our home page for Engineering and enter different MHT-CET scores which are close to your actual score and other required data. Based on this, WhatNeXT will suggest you different top 15 suitable engineering college lists in Maharashtra you should opt for. A good rule of thumb for preparing your options for admissions is to have about 10% of the colleges that you might just miss out on, but would like to really get.

3. What is CAP and autonomous round for engineering admission?

CAP is Central Admission Process conducted by DTE for non-autonomous engineering college admissions in Maharashtra. While Autonomous college round includes admission to CoEP, VJTI, UICT, SGGS, WCE and VIT.

4. What is admission type - AIEEE?

AIEEE (All India Engineering Entrance Examination) is organized by CBSE, a national level competitive exam for admission to various under-graduate engineering institutes. Most of engineering colleges in Maharashtra have some seats reserved for admission through AIEEE score. WhatNeXT allows getting a possible list of Maharashtra engineering colleges one shouls consider based on their AIEEE exam score and other details. It does not suggest a list for all India colleges based on the AIEEE score. Autonomous colleges have no AIEEE quota.

5. How is CAP process carried out?

CAP admission process is conducted by DTE in 3 rounds: CAP-I, CAP-II and CAP-III. If student fails to get admission in previous admission round then he/she is eligible for further rounds. Also the rules for admission based on the filled option form for each round usually change every year. so please check out www.dte.org.in for latest rules and information regarding engineering admissions. Note that cutoffs for each round are different.

6. What are university types? What is significance of Home and Other than Home university type?

There are two university types: Home University and Other than Home University. Home university is decided from the region from where you have passed 12th and all other universities come into other than Home category. Usually students have 70% quota in their own home university colleges while 30% quota for other than Home university colleges.

7. I am not getting any college suggestions after feeding required data at WhatNeXT. Is there anything wrong?

Please check your data once again. You will not get a college suggestion list if WhatNeXT will not be able to find suitable colleges according to the information you provide. For example, you score might be too low for the college/branch preferences you are looking for. In such cases, please change the input preferences appropriately and try again.

8. WhatNeXT website is not opening properly in my browser / I am unable to see the suggested college details clearly. What should I do?

We are not cool enough to support older versions of Internet Explorer prior to IE9. WhatNeXT website is best viewed in Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. So we request you to update your browser.

9. Where can I get updates and notifications about engineering admission process?

You can get the updates from daily newspaper or checkout www.dte.org.in for detailed information during the period of admissions.

10. I want to know the cutoffs at various engineering colleges for my category?

The cutoffs that are shown in the college suggestion list are actually given as per the cutoffs for your category only. So input the data and filter the suggested college list according to your preferences to see the cutoffs for the category you want.

11. I want to check cutoffs for engineering colleges in Maharashtra. How WhatNeXT can help me?

After you get college suggestion list based on your MHT-CET score, gender, category and home university, this list can further be filtered by providing your own preferences on the left hand side. Here you can select the preferred university and the colleges belonging to it. WhatNeXT will take into account these preferences for suggesting new college list suitable for you.

12. I wanted to do engineering in a specific branch? How can I get the college suggestions for that branch?
